The New Patriotic Party is getting ready to share its official views on the ongoing efforts to amend the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, revealed this development during a broadcast of Newsfile on JoyNews on Saturday, August 29.

Mr. Awuah explained that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the party, created a special committee to carefully review the position paper released by the government regarding the constitutional review. The committee is almost finished with its work and will present its final report to Dr. Bawumia in the coming week.

The review team consists of highly experienced professionals, including legal experts who have previously served under past administrations of the New Patriotic Party. Mr. Awuah noted that the members are conducting a thorough assessment of the proposed reforms. He expressed confidence that their final recommendations will make a meaningful contribution to the constitutional review and implementation process.

This update from the ruling party comes at a time when the opposition is also taking active steps on the same issue. Mr. Awuah shared the information while the panel was discussing a recent move by former President John Mahama, who recently appointed an eleven member committee to oversee how recommendations from the constitutional review process will be implemented.
