Senegalese football star Sadio Mané has invested $19.5 million in the SM10 Agro project in his hometown of Bambali, Senegal, as part of an initiative focused on agriculture, job creation and opportunities for young people and women.

The project seeks to address challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly the loss of mangoes due to inadequate storage and processing facilities, while keeping more of the value generated from local agricultural production within Senegal.
Mané Targets Agricultural Losses and Value Addition
The Al-Nassr winger said the Sedhiou region loses a significant portion of its mango production because of weaknesses in storage and processing.
“The Sedhiou region loses 30 to 40 per cent of the mangoes it grows, because of failures to store and process them properly,” he stated.
He said the SM10 Agro project is intended to help retain more agricultural wealth within the local economy while creating employment opportunities for residents.
“I want the wealth of our soil to remain here with us in Senegal. This initiative will employ 1,000 people from the outset,” Mané stated.
Project to Include Processing Plant and Mango Plantation
The initiative will include agricultural processing facilities in Bambali, with one of the plants expected to specialise in the production of mango butter.
The project will also establish a 500-hectare mango plantation, alongside an agricultural college aimed at developing skills and knowledge within the sector.
“Processing plants will be set up at Bambali, and one will specialise in making mango butter. There will also be a 500-hectare mango plantation, and an agricultural college will be established,” he said.
Focus on Youth and Women
The Senegalese star said the project would also create opportunities for young people and women in the region through education, employment and related services.
“I want the young people and women of my region to have real opportunities for education. Transport and delivery services for SM10 Agro will indirectly create extra jobs as well,” he stated.
The SM10 Agro project therefore combines agricultural production, value addition, education and employment, with the broader objective of creating economic opportunities within Mané’s home community.
