Samia Nkrumah has led her family back to Nkroful in the Western Region, the birthplace of Ghana's first president. Speaking on Sunday ahead of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, she pledged to actively preserve her father's legacy and dismissed historical narratives suggesting Ghanaians were happy after his overthrow.

Ahead of the statutory public holiday marking Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, the family of Ghana's first president has made a highly symbolic return to his hometown of Nkroful. The delegation, led by his daughter Samia Yaba Nkrumah, arrived in the Western Region this weekend to reconnect with their roots and spearhead local commemorative activities.
Speaking to community leaders and supporters on Sunday morning, Samia Nkrumah delivered an emotional address, publicly apologizing for the family's prolonged absence from the town. "Forgive us for staying away," she stated, making a firm pledge that the family is now fully committed to preserving Dr. Nkrumah's vision and maintaining closer ties with the people of Nkroful.
During her engagements, the former Member of Parliament aggressively pushed back against historical revisionism regarding her father's legacy. She firmly rejected the long-standing political narrative that the majority of Ghanaians rejoiced following his overthrow in the 1966 coup d'état, arguing instead that the nation lost decades of developmental momentum.
The family's return is expected to draw significant attention to Nkroful as Pan-Africanists and domestic tourists gather to honor the legacy of the nation's founding father on Monday.
Also an entertainment show, featuring Shatta Wale will take place on the eve of the 20th September.
