A man in the Gusheigu District has reportedly taken his own life due to extreme financial distress over his inability to purchase items on his son's Senior High School prospectus. The heartbreaking incident, widely shared in a recent Citi 97.3 FM news bulletin, highlights the severe economic pressures confronting families during the ongoing school admission period.

A devastating tragedy has struck the Gusheigu District, where a father has reportedly died by suicide following intense struggles to raise funds for his son's Senior High School (SHS) admission prospectus. The heartbreaking development was published by Citi 97.3 FM.
The deceased, identified by local sources as Alhaji Abdulai from the Macheleyili community in Kpatinga, had allegedly been under severe emotional and financial distress. Residents disclosed that he had repeatedly expressed deep frustration over his inability to secure the necessary funds to buy the mandatory items required for his son to enroll in his placed school.
According to community members, the mounting pressure led Abdulai to make previous threats about ending his life if he failed to meet the financial demands. He reportedly left his home on the morning of Sunday, September 20, and tragically, his body was discovered in the community on Monday afternoon.
While the sudden death has thrown the entire Macheleyili community into mourning, local police authorities have indicated that they are yet to receive an official report to commence a full investigation into the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
This heartbreaking incident underscores the immense financial burden many parents are currently facing despite the national framework for free secondary education. The loss coincides with recent stern warnings issued by the Ghana Education Service (GES), which cautioned school heads against imposing unauthorized fees or forcing parents to buy specific items directly from schools to ease the financial strain on vulnerable families.
